Physint: Hideo Kojima Says Espionage Game Is 5–6 Years Away

Hideo Kojima has confirmed that his next espionage title, Physint, is in development but says it won’t be released for another five or six years. Kojima’s next game, Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, launches June 26, 2025, for PS5.

Legendary developer Hideo Kojima has confirmed in a recent interview that his upcoming espionage game, titled “Physint,” will likely not be released for another five to six years.

Speaking to Le Film Français and translated on ResetEra, Kojima said the game is “in development” and spoke of his potential plans to “take on a film” while he’s still young.

What Is Physint?

Physint, first announced by PlayStation in January 2024 at the company’s State of Play event, is an upcoming action espionage game “for the next generation.” Kojima told his fans on X that “the look, story, theme, cast, acting, fashion, sound, etc… are all at the next level of ‘Digital Entertainment’ that could be called a ‘movie.”

The game, although not a Metal Gear sequel, is heavily inspired by it, and Kojima is bringing it to life with “cutting-edge technology and the best talents from around the world, both from film and video games.”

Why the Long Wait?

Kojima is preparing to launch Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, which will release for the PS5 on June 26, 2025. or June 24 for those with early access. After DS2 drops, all attention will turn to Physint, which is already in early development.

As of yet, Kojima and PlayStation have not revealed which console it will launch for, but with the PS6 expected sometime in 2027, it’s possible it could be a late launch for Sony’s next console.

What Fans Can Expect in the Meantime

While fans wait for Physint, Kojima is all focused on the upcoming Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, which continues the epic story of Sam Bridges, played by Norman Reedus, and Lou, the baby he carried through the first game.

Death Stranding 2 launches worldwide for PS5 on June 26, 2025, or June 26 for those who pre-ordered for the early access. A PC launch will likely happen after a timed-exclusive period for PS5, after one or two years.
