Hardspace: Shipbreaker (HS) is the sci-fi style action-adventure game from the development team at Blackbird Interactive. A team founded in 2007 by former members of Relic Entertainment and EA Canada. The game was released in Early Access in June 2020 and published by Focus Entertainment. It officially launched in May 2022, followed by its arrival on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S in September 2022.

It takes us on a first-person space adventure in the shoes of a spaceship salvager. Sent by the Lynx Corporation to work at the Morrigan Station to pay off your debt. The game was received positively, although players wanted more content and a rework of some aspects. Hardspace: Shipbreaker: Blackbird Interactive Acquires the Franchise License

With some surprise news, the development team at Blackbird Interactive brings awesome news about Hardspace: Shipbreaker. The news, which arrived on 14 August 2025, confirms that the team has reached a deal with Focus Entertainment, fully obtaining the rights to Hardspace: Shipbreaker.

This is fantastic news, coming more than 5 years after its launch in Early Access. The team promises a new direction for the game, confirming some small improvements, but also the rebirth of HS as a full-fledged video game series. They also thanked the support of Focus Entertainment and the fans over the years.

Blackbird Interactive and Hardspace: Shipbreaker – What Does the Future Hold?

As confirmed, the acquisition of the Hardspace: Shipbreaker rights marks a new direction. The team is already working on more than one HS-themed project, with the series set to become the main focus of the development team. While Focus Entertainment will no longer be affiliated with the series, it doesn’t rule out possible future collaborations.

So, we have confirmation of new games or even a sequel for the series. The team confirms they will be listening more closely to the community. Meanwhile, Hardspace: Shipbreaker itself will receive some minor tweaks, mainly a new logo and start screen, as well as a change to the privacy policy and user data handling.
