However, if you spend too much time interacting with these objects, it can attract hostile Boundary Horrors. The collected items serve as a new trading currency for special Forsaken merchants. These merchants offer new components for ships.
New Horror Spaceships and Mysterious Merchants
The new Forsaken merchants in No Man’s Sky can be summoned at outposts in deep space. These new vendors exchange collected Mementos for exclusive corvette components. These parts feature biomechanical designs, some of which resemble living organisms.
In addition, this includes new cockpit types:
- Hornet is an insectoid design available in three variants.
- Viper features a serpentine design with three structural variants.
- Mantis is a rather angular cockpit design with a reinforced frame.
- Vantage offers an exceptionally wide view of space.
Furthermore, there are new Legion-Class interiors for corvettes. You must now decide whether to modify your existing ship or build a new horror corvette from scratch. Another cosmetic reward is the Larva Tank Helmet. The Larva Cannon Multi-Tool can also be acquired from the merchants. Dedicated collectors can also earn the Mind Harvester title.
New Missions and Travel Without a Galaxy Map
The update also introduces new courier missions at space outposts. In these, you take on the role of a space delivery driver and must safely transport important packages to their destination. The prerequisites for this are a corvette and a Gravitino Coil. These missions offer an additional way to earn credits.
The biggest highlight of the update, alongside the Halloween content, is undoubtedly Seamless Warping. You can now see and select neighboring systems directly in space. This allows you to warp to new stars without needing to check the map. This is intended to make travel feel even more natural. Additionally, there are new Holo-Arena challenges, where you can compete against creature teams at the outpost.
Forsaken Also Improves Gameplay and Performance
However, this update does not only bring new features to No Man’s Sky. It also includes several improvements that do not directly affect gameplay. There is a new minimalist HUD mode, which reduces the compass, hazard indicators, and mission notifications.
There are also minor enhancements, such as the ability to upload orbital bases on shared servers, new corvette landing pads at planetary trading posts, oxygen harvesters that can now be built anywhere on planetary surfaces, and various bug fixes.
Another important point is that, with Forsaken, No Man’s Sky has now officially and completely launched on iOS, featuring adapted touch controls. Performance on VR, Xbox Series, and PS4 has also been improved.
