Nightdive Studios, renowned for remastering classic games such as The Thing, the Turok trilogy, and System Shock, has expressed interest in remastering titles from the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 era. In a recent discussion with VGC, Nightdive’s CEO Stephen Kick and director of business development Larry Kuperman conveyed their readiness to undertake such projects.

Kuperman emphasized the importance of several factors when considering remastering games from this era like determining whether the game was exclusive to Xbox 360 or PS3, or if a PC version also exists. Also a top factor is evaluating the availability and quality of the original source code and assets. He further noted, “Was it Xbox 360 exclusive, or was there a PC version out too? Because that also changes things, the little preservation that’s available.”

Kick highlighted the value of collaborating with original developers to enhance the remastering process. He suggested that revisiting past projects allows developers to implement improvements they had previously envisioned but couldn’t realize due to technological constraints at the time.

There’s also addressing PS3’s unique architecture that was discussed. Apparently, PlayStation 3’s distinctive system architecture poses specific challenges for remastering. Kick acknowledged these difficulties but expressed confidence in Nightdive’s capability, especially noting that because of their proprietary tech, the KEX Engine, they can find a way around it.

While Kuperman didn’t name specific games or publishers just yet, the message is clear: Nightdive is ready and willing, and the only thing standing in the way is getting the green light from IP holders.
