Amazon Luna is Changing for the Worse as it Strips More Features

Amazon Luna ends game purchases, BYOL, and third-party subscriptions in 2026. Learn key dates, access changes, and what happens to your games.

Amazon Luna, Prime Gaming, Amazon Games, whatever you want to call it at this point is back in the headlines as another change is coming to the platform. It’s unclear if this is a move to improve things (maybe there’s a great plan in the end) but since it is actually stripping the platform of features, probably not.

Amazon Luna Key Changes & Important Dates

2025 marked plenty of changes in Amazon’s gaming division in general. The in-game perks were totally taken out without a proper notice, some partnerships ended, and the Prime Gaming brand was sunset and confused everyone with Luna Standard, which frankly still confuses people today.

And as we thought 2026 will be a bit more quiet, Q2 starts with yet another change. Amazon officially announced that it’s disabling third-party stores and purchases. So those massive partnerships with EA, GOG, and Ubisoft will no longer continue past June this year.

If you bought games or subscriptions within Luna, you should definitely read this. Since there’s different dates to remember and different platforms, it can get a bit confusing. So to make this easier, here’s a bulleted list:

  • Game Purchases (A-la-carte titles)

    • April 10, 2026: New individual game purchases are no longer available.
    • June 10, 2026: Previously purchased games become unplayable on Luna.
    • Purchases are non-refundable (except under Amazon’s Digital Products Return Policy).

  • Bring Your Own Library (BYOL)

    • April 10, 2026: Feature effectively begins phase-out.
    • June 3, 2026: BYOL is fully discontinued.
    • After this date, games from external libraries (EA, GOG, Ubisoft) can no longer be played on Luna.

  • Ubisoft+ & Jackbox Games Subscriptions

    • April 10, 2026: New subscriptions through Luna are no longer available.
    • Active subscriptions:

      • Will renew one final time after the current billing cycle.
      • Then will be automatically cancelled.

    • June 10, 2026: Access to these subscriptions on Luna ends.
    • Subscriptions purchased directly from Ubisoft continue unaffected (outside Luna).

  • Third-Party Game Stores (EA, Ubisoft, GOG)

    • April 10, 2026: Stores are removed from Luna.
    • June 10, 2026: Any remaining access to related content via Luna ends.

Although your previously purchased a-la-carte titles will no longer be playable on Luna after June 10, 2026, you will not lose access to the games you bought. You can continue to play them by logging directly into the third-party platform account (EA App, GOG Galaxy, or Ubisoft Connect) that you linked when you originally made the purchase.

Because you retain ownership and access to these games through their respective external launchers, these purchases made through Luna are final and are not eligible for refunds. To make sure you don’t lose your in-game progress, your game save data will be available to download from your Luna Settings page for 90 days following June 10, 2026.

However, because save data compatibility varies widely depending on the game publisher and the platform you move to, it is highly recommended that you download your saves as soon as possible to test them on your intended platform.

It’s a big change in the platform, where unless there’s a bigger picture we have yet to see, it looks like another step from Amazon to downsize its gaming division.

A Private Blog Network (PBN) is a collection of websites that are controlled by a single individual or organization and used primarily to build backlinks to a “money site” in order to influence its ranking in search engines such as Google. The core idea behind a PBN is based on the importance of backlinks in Google’s ranking algorithm. Since Google views backlinks as signals of authority and trust, some website owners attempt to artificially create these signals through a controlled network of sites.

In a typical PBN setup, the owner acquires expired or aged domains that already have existing authority, backlinks, and history. These domains are rebuilt with new content and hosted separately, often using different IP addresses, hosting providers, themes, and ownership details to make them appear unrelated. Within the content published on these sites, links are strategically placed that point to the main website the owner wants to rank higher. By doing this, the owner attempts to pass link equity (also known as “link juice”) from the PBN sites to the target website.

The purpose of a PBN is to give the impression that the target website is naturally earning links from multiple independent sources. If done effectively, this can temporarily improve keyword rankings, increase organic visibility, and drive more traffic from search results.
