Kolesnikov was keen to state how Hello Neighbor 3 will follow the ideas of the first game, but was also quick to push how the upcoming horror will take inspiration from other games, like Outer Wilds.
For instance, sessions have a limited time before restarting with a brand new day, with players able to use their new knowledge of characters and mechanics to progress further.

During Gamescom 2026, Nikita Kolesnikov revealed that Hello Neighbor 3 introduces complex simulation-driven AI, real-time town events, and an expanded day-night cycle that alters NPC routines.
The presentation confirmed that players must now manipulate environment physics to evade a network of interconnected neighbors rather than a single antagonist.
Kolesnikov emphasized systemic gameplay over scripted jumpscares. The proprietary engine now calculates line-of-sight and sound propagation dynamically across the entire neighborhood.
As for the story, where Kolesnikov says the first game was a “bit like a dream sequence,” Hello Neighbor 3 will have “narrative elements” told through notes, paintings, and other things, forcing players to explore.
